Summer Collegiate League

The Bay Area Summer Collegiate League was founded with one purpose in mind — to build a bridge between talent and opportunity.  Rooted in the heart of Texas's Bay Area, our league unites college athletes, families, and fans across Baytown, Houston, and surrounding communities through the game we love most: baseball!

We believe in more than competition ​— we believe in growth, connection, and community. Every summer, we provide student-athletes with the platform to sharpen their skills, gain exposure, and prepare for the next level, both on the field and in the classroom.

Our mission extends beyond the diamond. The Bay Area Summer Collegiate League League is committed to empowering young athletes, fostering leadership, and creating opportunities that strengthen our local community. Through partnerships, youth programs, and shared passion, we're building a legacy where dreams continue to grow — right here at home!

Donnie Ray Gregory, widely known throughout the baseball community as "D-Ray," serves as Chief Executive Officer and Director of Baseball Operations for the league. Throughout his career, Donnie has coached and developed athletes ranging from 13U through 18U and collegiate summer league players, hosted elite college showcases, and worked extensively throughout the greater Houston area as a respected hitting instructor and player development specialist. He has also owned and operated multiple college platforms, helping bridge the gap between student-athletes and collegiate opportunities. Donnie's impact on the game is measured not only in wins, but in lives changed. He has assisted in placing 178 baseball players into college baseball programs across the United States, while mentoring and positively influencing thousands of youth high school, college athletes. He is passionate about developing elite skill sets, building character, fostering discipline, and preparing players for long-term success both on and off the field. A trusted connector within the baseball world, Donnie has established strong pipelines with college baseball programs and maintains a vast network of relationships with college head coaches and programs throughout Texas and beyond. His ability to advocate for players and create meaningful opportunities through networking is truly exceptional. Beyond competition, Donnie is deeply committed to community service, player community volunteer engagement, player strength and conditional, individual position-specific training. His leadership philosophy centers on accountability, developments and service-ensuring that every athlete under his guidance is equipped not only to compete, but to lead. As CEO and Director of Baseball Operations, Donnie Ray Gregory's vision continues to shape a culture of excellence, opportunity, and integrity- where players are developed, dreams are pursued, and the future of the game is built.

Bay Area Summer Collegiate League is proud to announce Happy Macon as the Assistant General Manage and Baseball Operations Manager. Happy was previously named General Manager of the Texas Coastal Baseball League in 2019. Happy brings 21 years of collegiate experience both as head and assistant coach and 3 years of professional ball as an associate scout for the White Sox and front office experiences an Associated General Manager in the Southeastern Independent Baseball League for the Montgomery Wings and Anderson Dirt Dobbers, where he also coached with late Pedro Borbon, former Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame pitcher. Known for his prowess recruiting ability and his proficient eye for pitching, he has coached 9 players that were drafted or signed including 4 All-Americans. He is a known developer who brings passion, precision, and game ready intensity for every athlete he is involved with. As a high-energy coach he is committed to unlocking each player's full potential by focusing on the mental aspect of the game as well as the physical. His instruction creates a competitive environment that pushes athletes to grow by pushing discipline, purpose and routines building confidence through each individual he impacts. IN the community, Happy is known for his involvement as a leader and providing mentorship to all. In one of his previous stints as a coach at Savannah State University, he was awarded by the state of Georgia's Department of Education the Parent Leadership Award for his mentorship and work with Chatman County Education System and Thunderbolt Elementary in 2015-16. Happy is the son of Thomas and the late Anyta Macon who has over 50 years of non-profit and leadership in Fort Wayne, in leading Metro Youth Sp rots, an independent youth organization with over 900 current youth being mentored using sports as the avenue. His father, Thomas, was honored and inducted into the Hall of Fame in June 2025 for his mentorship an championship coaching ability with 39 championships running Outreach Rams organization that has placed many in the collegiate and professional ranks. Happy Macon is a former three sport athlete in college playing football, basketball and baseball at Ohio university, Pasadena City College and Alabama Stat University. He is married to Marchetta, a former cheerleader at Auburn University and a two-time teacher of the year winner. They have two children, AJ, who plays football, baseball, and runs track and was awarded the White House Presidential Academic Award for Excellence, and Maliah, who plays volleyball, softball, and runs track. Ryan   Benitez

Jeremy Flores joined our coaching staff in 2025 and brings over a decade of experience developing pitchers at the collegiate level. Known for building competitive staffs and recruiting top talent, Flores has already guided his pitchers to record setting performances, including a program-best 394 strikeouts in 2025 and multiple All-Conference and All-Regions honors. Before joining our league, Flores served as Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Texas A&M-Kingsville, where his staff produced NCAA All-American conference award winners and a 2022NCAA South Central Regional appearance. He also spent six seasons at Our Lady of the Lake University, helping the Saints set a single-season wins record and mentoring numerous All-Conference and NAIA All-American players. As a player at Texas A&M-KIngsville from 2010-2013, Flores set program records for saves, earned All-Conference and All-Region honors, and was named to the Javelina All-Decade Team. A native of Victoria, Texas, Flores is dedicated to developing the next generation of student-athletes both on and off the field. He and his wife, Katrina, live with their two daughters, Kyleigh and Lilian.

Ryan Benitez is going on his third year as the head coach for coastal bend college baseball. Benitez rejoins CBC following a two-year stint as an assistant coach for Eastern New Mexico University (NCAA Div. II). He was the head assistant for Greyhounds and was a key to their foundational success. This past season at ENMU, Benitez helped lead the Greyhounds to a overall record of 23-28 and a program record in conference wins, by going 21-26 on year. Their success on the field helped them make the postseason for the 5th time is program history, advancing to the Lone Star Conference Tournament. The Greyhounds also lead the nation and conference in triples.

During the 2022 season, Benitez helped the team to the most wins Lone Star Conference wins in program history, finishing with a 16 conference wins. Several individuals had career bests as Benitez worked predominantly with the pitching staff. The program captured its largest win ever over #23 Lubbock Christian 16-1 and posted a 10-0 shutout over UAFS in eight innings (The first shutout since 2018) 

Previously, Benitez was the head assistant baseball coach, pitching coach, and recruiting coordinator at Coastal Bend College. While at Coastal Bend, he was responsible for all pitching staff operations, running study halls, planning travel arrangements, managing practice plans, and assisting with budget management for the baseball program. 

During the 2021 season, Benitez helped the Cougars to their first ever NJCAA Division III South District Regional Championship, NJCAA Division III South District Super-Regional Championship, and NJCAA Division III World Series appearance. In 2019, Coastal Bend won the programs first NJCAA Division III South District Conference Championships. 

Benitez spent the summer of 2017 as the head coach of the San Antonio Titans in the Centex Collegiate League where he led the team to a second place finish in the league. 

Prior to that, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Texas A&M University-Kingsville. 

During his undergrad days, Benitez was a member of the Javelina baseball team as a pitcher. He helped the team to regular season LSC championships in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Benitez was a 1st Team All-Lone Star Conference selection in 2015 and was a finalist for the Brett Tomko Award in 2015 as well. 

Benitez holds a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology from Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Director of Player Services

Carri Thompson

Carri Thompson has dedicated 29 years to education, specializing in serving the Special Education population. Throuout her career, she has taught in multiple school districts across the Bay Area, consistently demonstrating her commitment to student success and inclusive education. Ms Thompson is a proud mother of five children—four of who are boys—and has been deeply involved in the local baseball community. Her sons have participated on local Little League All-Star Teams and several elite travel baseball programs, including the Baytown Baseball Academy (BBA). Under her support and guidance, their teams have achieved national recognition, earning honors such as the Disney Wide World of Sports AAU Championship title in 2012 and a third-place finish at the National Youth Baseball Championships (NYBC). Two of hers sons have advanced to play baseball at the collegiate level, competing in both Junior College and NAIA programs. Beyond her biological children, Ms Thompson has also helped raise and mentor numerous young athletes, forming lasting bonds with many of her "bonus sons" through baseball. Her passions include cheering on both her sons in baseball and daughter in volleyball. Now, she steps into he role of Player Relations for the Bay Area Summer Collegiate League. Ms Thompson is excited to bring her experience, enthusiasm, and dedication to supporting and enhancing the experience of student-athletes across the region.

Krysinda Gregory Tyler

Born and raised in Baytown, Texas, Krysinda Gregory Tyler brings passion for community connection and story telling to her role as Director of Media Relations for the Bay Area Summer Collegiate League. A graduate of the University of Houston-Clear-Lake with a Bachelor's degree in Communication, she has built a career in marketing, media, and public relations, helping organizations grow their visibility, foster engagement, and build meaningful relationships. Krysinda's professional background spans leadership roles n marketing management, community outreach, social strategy, and public relations. She has spearheaded successful multi-channel campaigns, produced feature content for magazines, and coordinated high-profile events, consistently driving growth, awareness, and positive community impact. Her work has connected businesses, athletes, and community members while highlighting opportunities for education, youth development, and local partnerships. Equally devoted to her hometown roots, Krysinda is passionate about facilitating relationships that strengthen community growth, health safety, youth resources, education, dining, and entertainment in the Bay Area. She thrives on collaborating with small businesses and loves helping people discover and excel in their passions. Outside of her professional work, Krysinda is a wife and proud mother who enjoys exploring Houston and traveling with her family. Her commitment to building bridges between organizations and the community reflects her beliefs that strong relationships are the foundation of success—both on and off the field.
